Numerical Analysis of Gas Flow around Muzzle with Rotary Brake
Main Article Content
Abstract
The muzzle brake is intended to decrease recoil force of gun and in the past, the main attention has been paid to increase the efficiency in designing muzzle brakes. In this paper, in order to improve its efficiency, we suggest an innovative approach for blocking axis-directional flow of propellant gas by rotary brake after the projectile exits the muzzle. We establish the unsteady three-dimensional CFD simulation approach based on AUSM+ scheme for estimating the action characteristics of rotary brake and its effectiveness of muzzle brake. Through CFD simulation, we confirm that rotary brake acts safely without interference of projectile, and analyze the flow field around muzzle and determine the efficiency of newly-suggested muzzle device. By comparing our simulation result with test data, we prove the accuracy of simulation approach used here. Thus, this shows that it is possible to increase greatly its efficiency by installing rotary brake in muzzle
