Digital Humanities: Approaches to Indian Literary and Cultural Studies
Main Article Content
Abstract
Digital Humanities has emerged as a dynamic interdisciplinary field that integrates digital technology with literary and cultural studies, reshaping traditional methods of research, interpretation, and knowledge dissemination. In the Indian context, Digital Humanities offers innovative approaches to the study of multilingual literatures, regional cultures, oral traditions, and archival materials. This study examines the role of Digital Humanities in transforming Indian Literary and Cultural Studies by exploring the use of digital archives, text mining, corpus analysis, mapping technologies, and online cultural repositories. It highlights how digital tools facilitate the preservation and accessibility of marginalized voices, indigenous narratives, folk traditions, and regional literatures that often remain excluded from mainstream academic discourse. The research further investigates the impact of digitization on literary scholarship, pedagogy, and cultural representation in contemporary India. By analyzing selected digital literary projects, e-text archives, and online platforms, the study evaluates how technology democratizes literary production and cultural participation. It also addresses the challenges associated with Digital Humanities in India, including linguistic diversity, digital divide, technological accessibility, and the lack of institutional infrastructure. The study argues that Digital Humanities not only broadens the scope of literary and cultural inquiry but also encourages collaborative, interdisciplinary, and data-driven methodologies. In the era of globalization and rapid technological advancement, Digital Humanities serves as a bridge between traditional humanities scholarship and modern computational practices. Ultimately, this research emphasizes the significance of Digital Humanities in preserving India’s rich cultural heritage while simultaneously opening new avenues for literary criticism, cultural analysis, and academic engagement in the digital age.
