Environmental consciousness in the folk songs of Uttarakhand: a literary study

Abstract

The state of Uttarakhand has been named "Uttarakhand Devbhoomi" on this sacred and most sacred land situated in the lap of Himalayas due to its religious importance, holy rivers and temples. Uttarakhand is world famous for its purity and natural beauty. Folk songs in Uttarakhand are folk songs that are adopted not by a single person but by the entire folk society. Songs popular among the people, composed by the people and written for the people can be called folk songs. The rhyming words that a man spontaneously quotes in the wave of his joy to use in general folk behavior without caring much about the classical rules are folk songs.
