“Artificial Intelligence and Democratic Governance in India: Opportunities and Challenges”
Main Article Content
Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force in governance systems across
the world. In India, the world’s largest democracy, AI presents unprecedented opportunities to
enhance transparency, efficiency, citizen participation, and service delivery. At the same time, it
raises serious concerns related to privacy, algorithmic bias, accountability, digital divide, and
democratic ethics. This research paper examines the role of Artificial Intelligence in democratic
governance in India, highlighting its opportunities, challenges, policy initiatives, and future
prospects. The study adopts a qualitative and analytical approach based on secondary sources
such as government reports, policy documents, academic literature, and case studies. The paper
argues that while AI can strengthen democratic governance, its success depends on ethical
frameworks, legal safeguards, institutional capacity, and inclusive implementation.
