Main Article Content
Abstract
In 2015, the United Nations General Assembly presented the '2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development' to the entire world with the objective that developmental activities undertaken by humans should incorporate important aspects such as environmental protection, human dignity, and equal opportunities for all, alongside material and economic progress. This global framework comprises a total of 17 Sustainable Development Goals, among which Goal Number 12 pertains to 'Sustainable Consumption and Production'. This goal encompasses crucial aspects such as the efficient use of resources and energy, sustainable infrastructure, environmental adaptation, and an improved standard of living. The Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, a powerful text within the Indian knowledge system, not only provides spiritual consciousness to humanity but also underscores the importance of coexistence with nature and human responsibility towards society. This article presents certain philosophical paradigms described in the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita for the proper fulfillment and attainment of Sustainable Development Goal-12 as propounded by the United Nations, demonstrating the contemporary relevance of ancient Indian thought in the modern global landscape.
