Abstract

We attempt to determine the role of the presence of an elite public college within the village in the choice of college participation and persistence of adolescents aged 5–16 years in the context of rural India. The assessment is conducted using the nationally representative Annual Education Survey Report (ASER) dataset. The results of the pooled cross-section logistic model highlight that the presence of an elite public college substantially increases an infant's chances of attending school. The results remain consistent and large across different levels of schooling.
