Indian History as Depicted in Sanskrit Literature

Abstract
The undertaking of writing historical books is an important departure in the development journey of Sanskrit literature in the second millennium AD. The concept of history has also been established in our tradition through these books. The meaning of the word history in Sanskrit is iti ha aas – that which has been happening. History means the circle which has been happening since before and can keep happening in the future too. Puranas are their reinterpretation. Vatsyayana says in Nyayabhasya that the subject of history is public circle. Which is called history in English. Literature has an important place in the means of knowing history. Sanskrit language and literature are important from the historical point of view.
