Abstract

Goddess Ganga holds a very important place in Indian culture, religion and philosophy of life. The sacredness, greatness and divine qualities of Ganga's water have been described in Shrimadbhagwadgita, Puranas and Vedic literature. Ganga is not only a destroyer of sins and giver of salvation, but is also the spiritual and cultural heritage of Indian people. The name of Ganga, its origin, glory and the rules of its protection have been mentioned in detail in various scriptures. Touching, seeing, bathing and drinking Ganga water brings many virtues and removes all the troubles of life. Therefore, it is our moral duty to maintain the continuity and purity of Ganga. Ganga is not just a river, but a mother goddess, by worshipping whom devotees get worldly and spiritual happiness. Pilgrimage places like Tirtharaj Prayag, Haridwar, Kashi and Gangasagar further enrich the glory of Ganga.
